It's taken a lot longer than planned but the successor to BritainAndAmerica.com will launch towards the end of August - just ahead of the Democrat Convention.
The new website will have two very related aims:
- To explore the nature of anti-Americanism and how America and America's friends might combat it;
- To advocate American engagement in the world - warning that 'a world without America' would be poorer, more dangerous and less just.
The website will be updated on a daily basis from its launch but at its heart will be a set of fifty briefings that will help students, journalists and all interested people explore America's place in the world. Briefings will examine:
- The United Nations as an alternative to US leadership;
- The strengths and weaknesses of popular strategies to tackle anti-Americanism;
- The role of global media organisations in interpreting American power;
- The contribution of US faith communities to the development of American foreign policy;
- The contribution of American R&D expenditure to global welfare.
We have lots of special features planned for the website's first month and are very excited about possibilities. We have one big problem, however. We are struggling to find a good name for the project. Now that you know the broad outline of the project we would greatly appreciate any good ideas in the thread below...
How about "The Wallis Simpson Society for Transatlantic Harmony"? Hmm... maybe not.
The "Resolute" idea is a wonderful one. The exchange of courtesy and goodwill it represents is matched by the significance of the name of the vessel itself.
Thanks for opening the floor for suggestions. I'll be thinking on this...

I like "the special relationship" also (although 51stState is pretty funny, and also ironic).

The Angloshere.com if nor already taken.
Analyze the relationship of all the English-speaking world for the good of the world. Obviously, it would focus on the U.S. as the most powerful nation but also on Britain as the mother-country to the values of the English-speaking world.

I think the name might reflect the notion that we stand at a crossroads where one should choose sides: I think the defining struggle of our time is whether or not one views Judeo-Christian values as espoused, in their finest moments by the UK/USA as worth upholding and put bluntly, better than other cultural choices, or whether one espouses cultural/religious relativism; that is to say, we can chat over coffee with Iran, North Korea, etc. Truth versus relativism, the ability to pick a side in spite of some problems in the USA--to nurture a culture/civilization built up out of Judeo-Christian principles... Perhaps a name could be something like withUS.com as in "if you are not with us, you are against us" but also as in "with the USA"--Could be of course WithUSUK but that's getting unwieldy.

In terms of the project name, based on what you outlined above (as much as it pains me to quote Madeleine Albright), how about "the indispensable nation" or some variation thereof?

'Special Relationship' isn't bad, but it might be taking itself too seriously. We have one big problem, however. We are struggling to find a good name for the project. Now that you know the broad outline of the project we would greatly appreciate any good ideas in the thread.

'The Pond', or perhaps, 'Across The Pond'. 'Special Relationship' isn't bad, but it might be taking itself too seriously.
